Mi Pueblo!
Last weekend, my husband and I went to his parents’ house to help them lay sod in their front yard. After four hours, a wicked farmer’s tan, ten sore fingertips and shaky muscles, we went out to one of our favorite Mexican restaurants as a treat. The last time we’d been to Mi Pueblo in Sarasota, Florida, we were not vegans – not even vegetarians. I used to love getting a fishbowl margarita and mole, which is essentially chocolate chili chicken.
This time, I still got the fishbowl, but I turned the page to the all-vegan menu. I know, I was surprised to find an all-vegan menu at a Mexican restaurant, too. And it wasn’t just beans and vegetable fajitas, it was sprouts and sunflower sour cream and pureed Brazil nuts and kale-wrapped burritos. They even had a full juice bar! Everything was organic. If you live in the Sarasota area or if you are vacationing in this beautiful city, I would absolutely recommend this restaurant. It has my vegan stamp of approval.
I ordered the Tacos de Paz, which had spicy ground Brazil nuts, guacamole, sunflower sour cream and pico de gallo in fresh corn tortillas. My husband had the Burrito de Luz with seasoned sunflower seeds, lettuce, sprouts, avocado and a side of living veggie rice. I can’t wait to go back and try some of the other entrees. They even had vegan desserts - that almost never happens!
